Overview of Jardim de Luís de Camões
Historical Significance and Popularity
Jardim de Luís de Camões, also known as White Pigeon Park, is one of Macau's oldest and most beloved parks. Despite its popularity among residents, the park has experienced varying degrees of wear and tear over the years. Although several repairs have been undertaken, the park's amenities, including the children's playground and outdoor fitness equipment, have not fully met the needs of the community.
Park Renovation Project
Focus on Enhancing Children's Play Area
To address these issues, the Municipal Affairs Bureau launched a project to optimize and improve White Pigeon Park. The project focuses on enhancing the children's play area and reconfiguring the surrounding spaces to expand the available area.
Floral-Themed Play Area
The children's play area is designed with a floral theme, featuring flower-shaped play structures and fitness-training equipment. It also includes a parent-child swing and utilizes the natural slope of the area to create an artificial grass slide zone. Children can freely choose between using the slide or sliding on the grass, enhancing interaction and fun between parents and children. The walls are adorned with mosaic floral patterns, reflecting the theme of the park.
Creation of the Mosaic Mural
Project Consultation and Design
In late 2019, we were approached by the project team for consultation. After discussions, it was decided that a custom mosaic mural would be created using glass mosaic tiles.
Mural Design and Execution
The design features vibrant colors such as pink, magenta, green, and dark brown to depict floral patterns. In addition to the vibrant colors, two different sizes of tiles were used to create the pattern. Each tile was meticulously arranged and trimmed by hand according to the design. Due to the precision required, each artisan could only complete a small area each day. The project was completed in three weeks.
